It will not only add warmth to a conservatory or summer house, but also a touch of style and elegance in either one of six attractive hand-sprayed enamel finishes. The electrically powered ESSE Solo truly is a very charming and practical addition to any room without central heating and is now equipped with a thermostatic control for maximum comfort.

The original oil version (no longer available) was designed to assist Alan Hinkes (Britain's top high altitude mountaineer) in his attempt to climb all 14 of the 8,000 metre high peaks in the world, something only 5 people have achieved in the history of mountaineering. ESSE stoves have a proud history of reliability in extreme conditions giving their owners a down to earth feeling of warmth.

1832 A Sixteen year old Scottish entrepreneur, James Smith, set sail for the American shores in search of new ideas and new horizons. He settled in Jackson, Mississippi and soon established a hardware business selling cooking ranges and stoves. The business flourished, but the hot, humid climate was having an effect on his wife's health
so they made plans to return to their native Scotland

1900 By the turn of the century ESSE was internationally famous and Smith and Wellstood was a major company supplying range cookers and stoves to many of the great railway companies and shipping lines and commanding, at one time, a quarter of the British domestic heating market.
Queen Victoria was one of 6 monarchs to grant a Royal Warrant for the company's products, and sales catalogues of the era confirm there was hardly a peer of the realm who didn't possess a Smith & Wellstood stove, fireplace or range.

2001 ESSE introduces an all new range cooker featuring a host of innovative new features and engineering enhancements. This is the result of ESSE's on-going investment in research and development designed to respond to the demands of modern day living and provide the customer with the very best in quality, craftsmanship and value.
ESSE range cookers are available through a network of local dealers
throughout the UK and Ireland and can be seen in central London stores Harrods and Selfridges.
